After being hired by the Greater Manchester Fire Service communications department as a graphic designer, I was invited to design and layout their proposals for how the fire service could adapt in the face of projected challenges like budget cuts, shifts in society and changes in the nature of hazards dealt with by the Fire Service in the years 2012 – 2015. The document, eventually titled “Operational Strategy” was deemed to be an extremely important document to the service as a whole and was completed with a great deal of input by county fire officers and creative input from myself. I had a hand in its production at all stages from conception to handing over the artwork to the printer.
In particular, the pictograms designed by myself to show changes in resources at each fire station were praised by several officers both from Manchester and other counties for their clarity in displaying the information.
