Mencap is a nationally renown charity that helps people with learning difficulties of many different levels, improve their quality of life. A Mencap project worker had the idea of taking a group of ten people under the care of this organisation and getting them involved in cookery classes. The group participated in joint cookery sessions and a number of recipes were cooked by the individuals too under supervision including sweet and savoury dishes. My task was to help the team produce a cook book and many of my skills including design, artwork and dealing with the print aspects were made use of. The book has been made available for sale at Mencap events for a cost of £5.
It was decided that the book should contain big bold typography to suit some of the potential audience and the two dozen or so recipes were carefully laid out using a common layout that was contained over two facing pages. The printed pages were laminated by the printer and spiral bound for ease of use in the kitchen.
Each recipe, created by an individual project participant was broken down into ten steps with an accompanying photograph. The book was very well received by Mencap, the project participants and their carers.
